Last year, wandering to a remote part of the local junk yard for the first
time,
I found a mid-50s 'pontoon'-type Mercedes (190, 219, or 220, I guess). I
knew
that this yard had a few really old cars there that were junked way
back when, but this one looked rather good, apart from a quite stripped
interior. As it's also quite similar to my parents' 180D, I asked
how long it had been there - less than a year!

Who in the world would drive a 1958 or earlier Benz to the junk yard in
1999?

(Even if its all mush under the goodlooking skin, it would seem that
finding
someone who'd want it for parts, or for making a 'custom' on a modern
frame would be an easy thing to do.)
