'93 urS4 Driver Mirror Removal

Gang,

Trying to remove the driver side mirror on my 93 S4... Has recently stopped
moving in-out. Up-down works fine.

To resolve this, my plans, were to remove the mirror glass and then see if
the "attitude adjustment" thingys looked bad... Hopefully a simple
re-assembly would refresh proper behavior. Pop in the Bently CD for
instructions on removal. "take a plastic thingy... and pry top and bottom.."

So that's what I do, careful not to apply too much pressure. But no luck--I
can't get the mirror out and am too chicken to apply additional pressure.

Fiddle around manually moving up/down right/left in the process. Then I get
the idea to try the controls again... This time, no up-down either,
left-right still not working either. Notice that the mirror moves very
easily now in all directions. Fiddle some more, and notice suddenly that now
theres some resistance in the left right... Try controls again, this time
left/right work--but up/down still not working.

I assume that I've still got to get the mirror glass off.

Any special hints as to how to succeed at this?
