Wurth, Worlpac, foreign parts stores et.al all sell the "German" style
hose clamps, which are stainless and have raised wedges (NOT cut through
like el-cheapo clamps). These clamps are the only kind any 4N mechanic
would use, and the only kind I've ever used. As with all hose clamps,
they should be replaced whenever you're changing a component they're
fixing to the engine.
I've never seen "normal" hose clamps with the cut slots cause a hose to
fail, maybe those boys on the fishing boats are a bit Ham Fisted and
tighten the hell out of them. When you try and really overtighten the
"raised wedge" type hose clamp, it'll slide and strip so you can't
overtighted it like the "regular" cut clamps.
Boat supply companies.........these are the few places that make Audi
Dealer prices look reasonable!
