electrical fault solved

i've been chasing a mysterious electrical fault on the ur-q - the battery
would lose it's voltage over the course of a week (it only generally gets a
ride once a week) - still start the car, but sluggishly.. rather than
pulling fuses and looking at current drain, i've been trying to work from
1st principles. the obvious candidate was the alarm so i've scheduled this
weekend to have another good look at it (this is a month after spending the
best part of a day tidying up the monkey-lads installation). other than
that, i was thinking that the battery would need replacing.

anyway i was dropping little joshua to the doctor, in the ur-q. tracey
pulls down the sun visor. the light around the mirror is on. didn't think
too much of it, then about 5 minutes afterwards, a audible "ding" was heard,
as moi's brain engages.

"honey", sez i ,"do you turn the mirror light off when you've finished?"
"no", sez 'er indoors. "i thought it turned itself off when i pushed the
visor up"...

best recollection is that the light would have been on for at least 3 weeks.
it is not controlled by the ignition key.

sheeezzzzzhhhhhhh............
