electrical fault solved

frank was on to it.  although the light is not controlled by ignition or the
door light, there is a contact that should turn the visor off when it is put
in the up position.  the wiring diagrams verify this.  time to find out why
it's not happening...

I thought it was controlled by the light switch though?

btw, sluggish starting can sometimes mean its time for a new starter -
old worn out ones draw more current and spin slower.

But I guess I'd carefully cheeck the function of that visor light first!
