Why this list is so valuable.

Yes, its tedious sometimes with the off-topic posts,
MIME-wars, etc., but the rewards and money saved makes
it all worthwhile.
What follows is a horror story.
An acquaintence was given a '91 200 Automatic. When I
noticed it one morning I congratulated her, told her
that Audi's were my passion, said that if you could
work on them yourself they were a great car to own,
and told her that if (really, when) the automatic
transmission went out just write it off and call me to
haul it away.
Well, she has gotten several months of good service
out of it, no problems with the transmission, and
really loves it.
However, this morning she tells me the fuel pump went
out and it is at the dealers and will cost her $900+
to get it fixed. About half and half parts and labor
if I gather right. They are charging her 10% of the
total bill just to expedite the pump since it is not
in stock!
Wow, I've already done a fuel pump in the '85 4ksq
(not the same, I know) and I will not hesitate to
replace the one in my '89 100q if it should fail
(knock on wood). Look at how much value I'm getting
out of the list just in regard to fuel pumps. Hey, how
about the speedo I fixed with just a touch of the
soldering iron? All of these possible through the help
and encouragement available on this list.
May the force be with.....the list!
Mike
