I got this Mazda MPV 4WD with manually lockable differential w/o speed
limiter. On snow and ice (with no visual sign of the road underneath),
locked diffs allows a lot better control of the vehicle than having
unlocked diffs. Any possible bind in drivetrain is pretty much nullified
by the slippery surface. I always remember to disengage the lock on
non-slippery surface -- the sound of binding drivetrain isn't easy on ears
beside making the whole vehicle shudder going corners.
Locked diff also allows more controlled 4-wheel power drifts.
