side moulding removal (ps, it doesnt seem ive been using plain text either.....)

im getting quite unfortunate recently, windscreen yesterday, side moulding today... .gone. it would seem that the previous owner used some silicone based sticky stuff (technical description), to refix the side moulding, came out this evening to get some petrol and the bas***d thing was gone, leaving a rectangle of rubber on the car.  possibly aided by the cellulose thinners i had used on the car recently to remove the pinstripes.  whats the deal with removing the mouldings????   i was thinking, use a heat gun to soften the glue, then remove the leftovers with thinners again.  any experience much appreciated....
