Mooo noise from steering

Dear friends and listers,

First of all a big thank you to you all who have supplied me with your
valuable input regarding the problem stated in the subject line.

It was suggested to check the steering damper, which was ok, check the
steering rack's outer points for leakage, which appeared in very good shape,
check the high pressure hoses, from where there is a slight amount of
leakage but appears to have been dramaticaly reduced.

I chose to follow the suggestion of checking the Pentosin reservoir filter
for slugde/dirt and to replace the Pentosin.
The filter was so dirty that I would be ashamed to even consider that such a
filter was mounted on my car. Thoroughly cleaned with brake fluid and
careful application of pressurized air assisted into making it almost brand
new (taking extra care again not to widen the tight messing)
The Pentosin fluid was much darker it should have been and was therefore
syphoned using a 25 cm length of plant irrigation 4 or 5 mm diameter tubing
and a 50 ml syringe. It took a few times to empty the pentosin reservoir but
is was worth it.

The steering is as smooth as silk and as silent as the lambs (in silence of
the lambs).

I am planning to replace the Pentosin once more (and also check and possibly
clean the filter) in about a month or so as per the instructions suggested
by Al Swackhammer.

A big thanks once more to Al and to all of you AUDI friends for your input
and for sharing your wisdom with another audiphile.

Take care and happy motoring to all
Pantelis Giamarellos
