ATF additive for leaky seal

Jay asks..."Has anyone ever used an ATF additive that does not harm
auto-trans.?"
How can I tell if it was harmful?
I gradually put a quart of Trans-X into my AT, over a few months time. The
AT still functions, but the additive didn't stop the leak.
What exactly is your problem with leakage?
Where does it appear to be leaking?
Have you considered replacing the seal?
The AT on my 89 100 leaked for a long time, and I eventually replaced the
seal myself, without pulling the tranny. It was far less traumatic than I
feared. The leakage was from a 3 inch round cover on the passengers side
of the transmission held in
with a big circlip. This is the 2nd gear brake band piston cover and is
sealed with an O-ring. The heat of the exhaust hardens the o-ring over
time. The piston assembly can be removed and the O-ring replaced. Also
recommended to replace the piston seals at the same time since they are
rubber and harden also. If the piston seals have hardened they can affect
the shifting, because pressure is lost past the seals.
I could send instructions re: how to replace this seal without removing the
AT from the car.
Of course there are other seals that could be leaking, so this may not apply.
