More A4/Passat Opinions

Being a dutiful son, I forced myself down to the local VW/Audi dealer to
check out some cars for my parents =-).
Well, the surpise was it was relatively pleasant. I was treated with
respect and no one tried to convince me of anything, i.e. they seemed to
be letting the product speak for themselves. The annoying thing was that,
even though the dealership houses both VW and Audi (and Volvo), I
couldn't deal with just one salesman. The VW salestaff are for some
reason, separate from the Audi staff and the Volvo staff. Like, the owner
of this place doesn't expect people to cross shop?
Anyway, I was somewhat dismayed to learn that VW will no longer sell the
Passat GLS models, even with the V6, with 4-motion. Which means that
there will only be one model of wagon, the GLX as the saleman said that
all wagons will be 4-motion. So now, if my parents want a Passat, they
must buy the GLX which has more than they really want, AND cost more than
they really want to pay for. Admittedly the A4T Tipo Avant does cost some
$6k less, but it is a decidely smaller car, and the care and feeding of a
turbo car is really more than they are looking for at their age.
So, the questions:
1) Does anyone know if the salesman was being truthful (I see no
motivation for him to lie, as they will not get wagons until April) or
will GLS's be availible?
2) Does anyone know a North East dealer that has a Passat GLS V6 Wagon
with Tipo in the old series?
Thanks,
LL - NY
