Or, if you have an older Audi (say, pre 1991 or so), VAG had WAY fewer key
blank combinations than, say Honda or other car manufacturers. Thus, your
key will probably work in 1 in 10 other VAG products.
My family had two 1980 4ks, one 1983 5k, and a Porsche 924. All with
similar keys. My friend had a VW Scirocco (1982).
Together, with all of our keys, we could open and start nearly _every_ car
on the local VW/Audi dealer's lots. After hours of course. Yes, it was
back in my younger, stupider (debateable) days. It was fun, though.
It was getting so bad that somedays in high school, I would come out to
find my car missing as my friend with his keys could get in it and move it
around the parking lot.
I don't know exactly how key making works, but early-80s VAG products
really didn't cut the mustard.
