3rd seat in avant

I've got a question about a '99 A6 Avant.  The wayback has 2 seatbelts but
no apparent seat.  We pulled out a carpeted board with a styrofoam bottom
that fits over the spare, but can't figure out if there is a seat.  Under
the board, the receivers of the seatbelts pop up with a spring.  There are
also 4 holes in the floor, not on this carpeted board with plugs.  The
salesman says they are for tying down things.

The salesman is of not too much use.  He fights to be an expert over such
minor things, we're getting tired.  Does he really deserve our money?

Here the question:  How does the wayback seat work?  How does it pop up?
Can anybody point me to a picture of one up or being put up?
