Auto transmission and battery

I was browsing my Bentley (100 A6 Repair Manual)
yesterday when I found this warning in the Battery
section (page W27-1):

   "For automatic transmission vehicles, the
    Transmission Control Module (TCM) "Basic
    Setting" must be reestablished using the
    VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), whenever the
    battery has been disconnected or replaced
    during a repair."

I found nothing about this in the transmission
section (that's not saying much - the organization
of this book is shit).

Anyone ever have a problem with the transmission
after changing out a battery or otherwise
disconnecting
the battery?
