Power Steering Loss

Yesterday I participated in an auto-x school with my '83 CGT.  The first 
lesson for me was through a 8 cone slalom.  Repeatably, every time as I set 
up for 7th cone, I would completely loose all power steering assist.  Most 
of the time I'd regain it momentarily as I brought the wheel back to center 
to when steering (or trying to steer) around the last cone.

I've auto-x'ed the car many times before, and in all the other excercises 
and 5 auto-x runs later that day I had no problems.  In fact, I've never had 
any type of power steering loss on the car ever.

Thoughts as to why this could have happened?  Am I looking at the potential 
for a future P/S failure?
