Well I just test fit the 225/40 16" Kumho 712's on Borbet T 16x7.5" ET35
on my '88 80 FWD. The rears went on beautifully, though I could easily see
that if a person had their car very lowered that it would rub on the rear
fender where it meets the bumper. The bump stops on my suspension will not
let the tire even get near that portion of the fender. The fronts went on
beautifully too. I was slightly afraid they might contact the tie rod, but
there's plenty of clearance. Again my bump stops won't let the tire reach
the fender, but then again from what I see I don't think it would rub if it
could. For all of you out there considering this it looks to be a fine fit,
not a problem unless the rear suspension in your TYP89 is very low and has
no bump stops. As for TYP89 quattros the rear could be a problem as I've
heard, but not sure until someone tries it.
I can't test drive because there seems to be more snow heading our way.
The 14" go back on later today. What I do notice is that the 225/40 doesn't
fill the wheel well very well, I might drop the car one turn up front and
two in the rear to make it look a bit nicer. Coilovers are great:)
Cheers!
