How to remove hall sender from distributor

I would think that it would be easier to just swap the whole
distributor. really. So long as the "tamper proof" plate is removed
(and now would be a good time) its just a matter of one nut, and getting
the thing lined up right when installing.
I took a dist. apart once, and it works in a car now, so it must be
possible, but I do remember that the window thing was not easy to
separate, if at all. Like it was bonded to the shaft - ie, I had to do
this with the dist. out of the car anyway.
when removing/installing, the dist. has to be turned gently to disengage
its gear from the camshaft. this is no big deal but it makes getting
one bakc in with the rotor aimed the same a bit of a try try again
process. Like tying a tie and getting the two pieces the right
length...
