In the interest of reducing, and basically eliminating, engine movement, I recently performed a mod to 80tq. Gary K. has mentioned this upgrade in the past, and we perfomed this mod on a 4kq race car with great results.
I removed the two brackets from the front bumper support, discarded the lower bracket, and modified the upper slotted bracket. What I did was weld in a chromoly tube that has the same ID as the OD of the stock rubber bushing.
The net effect is nearly no engine movement, and very little increase in vibration. The advantage is that though the engine is rigidly supported in the front, the weight of the motor is still on the vib-dampening stock motor mounts.
I took it a step further and used a poly. front snub mount.
If you are intersted in performing this upgrade, contact me and I can give you the details.
