Just had this same problem. My car failed its MOT (UK's road worthiness test)
for it. You have to replace the springs. I also wasn't impressed with main
dealer prices for the springs (111 gbp *each* back in 1999, dropped to 70 odd
gbp *each* now after Audi's price revisions for older models) so I did what I
did last time I broke a spring and got some Boge replacements from Dialynx in
Swindon, UK. I had to do this a few years back on my 84 quattro and never did
find out if they were the correct part but they fit and seem to give a stock
ride height...

The part numbers are at the following URL and below

25.A07.0 rear and 25.A06.0 front

if you check in

for posts from me you'll see the thread about these springs

I paid about 70-80 quid (that's `pounds sterling' if you don't know the
UK->US translation for `quid' :) for a *pair* or rear springs or 108 usd.

They were *not* identical to the ones that came off the car (apart from the
rust/paint discrepancy - Huw ;) the number of coils were not quite the same, +/-
1/4 to 1/3 turn, I didn't manage to compare to a set of dealer sourced springs
but they did give a stock height as far as I could tell. They fitted fine with
the perches top and bottom.

If someone with EKTA could check pt no's between the saloon and coupe NA 84-86
quattro's we could tell if they did use the same springs?

HTH,

Graham.

1985 90 quattro.

P.S. Boge uk said they were fitment for a NA coupe q, they do seem to fit the
84-86 UK 80/90 quattro (US 4000q, I've done it twice on the rear and once
on the front now) but there may be some differences with ABS cars and/or air
con that make them less suitable... ymmv

P.P.S the good news is both times I replaced the springs the dampers seemed to
be fine.
