Follow-up:
Bentley provides an exhaustive procedure for troubleshooting.
Then, the last step is, "replace coil anyway." Great, and my car
has a "special" coil (read as: costs US$100 more than your
average coil). Some two months later, the problem seems to be
gone, so it was likely the coil.
