Hello Fellow Q-Listers:
I haven't posted in a while, so this is a long post.
General:
Well, spring is here and I have Audi fever. Since last posting in
November, I've gotten married, shipped more ADZs, lost my job BUT found
a job that
pays 50% more (I like when that happens) and found some more 6 speeds.
(Sorry if this is a WOB).
Mandatory Quattro Content:
I have the 20V NA sitting here and all of the running gear too. Parting
out my 20V would give me the $ to buy either a 3B or a Vortech
supercharger. You can't give 20 V non-turbo away in Germany, no
interest! So, instead of spending $1600 on a used 3B and doing a major
heart transplant into my 1985 Coupe Quattro, I've been thinking: why not
spend $1500 and add a Vortech Supercharger???
I would use the 20V (3B) intake + fuel injectors (bolt-on) and the
electronics from the 3B. Instead of boost from a turbo, the ECU would
see boost from the supercharger. No turbo lag, underhood heat and broken
EM studs. Should work.
Anyone tried this?
Ideas, comments and suggestions are welcome.
Those 200 20V turbo trannies, code ADZ:
About those new, but old ADZs. Sorry, please do not email me to see if
there are anymore. Keith at Anderson Motorsport bought the last 3 that I
had access to, so there are no more ADZs left.
However, I can get AOB and AOC models. These are the same vintage, axle
ratio, gear ratios and bellhousing as the ADZ. The rear tail housing
from the ADZ and AOB/AOC are different and the main shafts have
different part numbers. The main driveshafts are the same for AOB, AOC,
ADZ and ADY equipped cars, so I suspect that AOC and AOB could be made
to work. 36 in total available for $750 each.
Since all US cars came with Procon 10, you need the ADZ. Maybe a rear
tail housing swap?
I'd like to compare an ADZ to an AOC or AOB. Anyone have an old AOB/AOC?
At $1000 shipped, a new AOC is cheaper than a rebuild.
6 speeds again:
Back in November a lot of people responded to my post regarding cheap 6
speeds. They all turned out to be older (92-93) vintage CGR models.
While looking for the elusive CRB (RS2) 6 speed for Bob, I managed to
find these 6 speed Quattro trannies:
Here is a small list:
One almost new EHW. I believe this is the 2.7 Bi-Turbo trans that came
in 99+ S4s. 6th gear is 0.60. My older version of the Family Album only
goes to 98 models, so all I know if that the bellhousing has the same
number as the older 6 speeds. 01E 301 103, which is superceeded now by
103 K. (Same as the EHW).
One almost new DQT. This is the European 2.5L V6 TDI 6 speed. VERY wide
ratio, with a 0.56 6th gear. Was also used in the A4 Quattros with 110
HP 4 cylinder TDI. (Engine code AFN).
Three almost new DSYs. This trans was used in 99+ S4s, but the
bellhousing has the ending 103J. Someone told me that they are drilled
for 4,5 and 6 cylinder engines, but I'm not sure. This trans is so new
that my version of Family Album (5.30) doesn't even show it. It has the
same ratios as the DQT, but my Audi dealer wouldn't tell me more.
Six used CGRs and 10 used CBL. The CGR was used in the S2, the CBL in
the S4 until 94. None have the he wider first or hardened input shaft,
but only cost $800 each.
One used CMG. This is the V8 6 speed Quattro, does not have the wider
first or hardened input shaft, but uses an oil pump to cool the oil.
One used DGV (late model A8 Quattro). This trans has an oil pump, but my
FA doesn't have any information on these either.
One very new S8 Quattro 4 speed automatic with Tiptronic. Weighs about
500 lbs.
All of the almost new trannies cost between $1500 and $1800 not
including shipping. They are from crashed cars and do not have shifters,
but all are low milage units. The ued ones are half of that.
Here is a good link that someone sent me about the various 6 speeds:

Nice to be back on the list...
Kind Regards
