Thanks for the clarification. If the A suffix denotes the phone,
then I have a follow-up:

You must buy the A suffix pieces for the type 44, regardless of
whether it has the phone or not- they are still too long to fit
in the space, although they are just about right w/o the phone
piece.

Even with the "A" piece, I need to cut about 1 inch from the pieces,
making each piece just about 6 inches long, measured on the upper
surface (the longer of the two long surfaces, edgewise).

In looking at it again, I think I need to clarify what I see.  In the
Family Album, the part numbers for the cup holder are listed for a left
and a right, and another set for vehicles with telephone.  Apparently
there are two pieces to a set, and the sets are different depending if
you have a telephone.  The set without phone, is 4A0 862 533 and
....534.  If you have a phone, the numbers are 4A0 862 533 A and ....534
A, both with the color code suffix.  I guess the "A" at the end is the
only difference.

I apologize for any misinformation or confusion.
