I recently (last week) painted all of the window trip and black molding on
my 4000. It worked great! Most of the black had worn off around the
windows to the chrome. I sanded it down, masked it off, and used
high-quality black spray paint that I purchased at Home Depot. It was
supposed to be used to paint any metal surface, and it adhered well. Use
the matte finish.
For the bumpers, I bought some plastic treatment that cleaned the plastic,
masked everything, and then used a spray paint called "Black Out" that I got
at the local auto paint store. It is made to paint bumpers and flexible
plastic, and worked really well. I'm going to paint the grill this weekend.
All the supplies cost me under $40.
