I did succumb to the modification itch to the point of fitting a Charlie 
Smith wastegate spring, and made the wastegate cap adjustable. This has 
allowed the car to run 13 PSIG (shown on a gauge teed into the ECU line) at 
5k ft (Denver). I still haven't hit the FP cutout. Having looked at the ECU 
innards several times I can see no evidence of any fiddling.
Anyway, the car is now in the "great daily driver fun" category, and I hope 
will be as reliable as an 18 year old car can be. I have _had_ to sort 
through most everything on the car to get it back right, and therefore am 
fairly confidant with it.
It has been a _long_ journey, but is now bearing some fruit of my labor.
Happy to answer any other questions any one might have.
