All depends on the dealer and sales staff. I recall as a kid in
Monterey, far from old enough to drive, that the sales guy at the Lotus
dealer let me sit in the Elans and Europas on the showroom floor.

Many years later, young but licensed, I was looking for a Porsche 914
(used) and was at Anderson Behel Porsche Audi in the San Jose area and a
salesman whom I later on bought two different cars from tossed me the
keys to a used 928 to go have fun with while he waited on another
customer and dug the used 914 I was there to look at out from being
buried in the lot. Suffice to say, he became one of my favorite car
sales people for the better part of a decade (retired now and the
dealership is under new ownership but when he was there I could test
drive pretty much whatever I wanted...alone!).

They're not all bad...
