did some work on the ole car this weekend, new valve cover gasket and new 
air boot.  The air boot was dry rotted and cracked, I assumed was letting in 
unmetered air.  Before I worked on the car it was running ok and it would 
idle at 800.  After I worked on it(yikes) it would bellow white smoke when 
accelerating  and idle at 1200. I turned the little 3mm screw on the fuel 
distributor CCW one quarter turn and it idled at 800. I drove it awile and the 
smokin all but quit.  Took it on the interstate to blow it out or up and the 
check engine light came on after about 20 minutes of driving.  It gave the 
4444 code but all`s not well.
   Can`t figure out whats up, help!??
