Correct Alternator Voltage?

Can anyone tell me what the alternator should be putting out for volts?  I 
just had my original replaced with a rebuilt from a very reputable local 
shop.  I am getting less than 13.5 volts and with a heavy electrical load it 
drops to 13.  The old one put out about 14 if I remember right.
