Hmmm... AoA seems to be very rigid in these matters. I know for a fact that 
here in Europe, these matters would be resolved differently- Audi would pay 
for part of these repairs even after the warranty would've run out, if it's 
a known defect of the car (and I've read of a few similar cases with the 
1.8T, I think). They are obliged by law to contribute to the repair costs 
here, as you may expect an engine to be reliable for a certain period and 
for no major defects to occur within a reasonable time frame, when 
maintained according to factory schedules. 83k is not an engine's life 
span, nowadays- not even on low-cost cars. My engine's got near twice that 
in 'experience' and shows no signs of throwing in the towel.
Moreover, they would like to protect their good name as makers of reliable 
cars... so maybe this is where you can 'score'- make your bad experience 
known to the general public... I think it's no more than reasonable to 
expect a contribution towards repair costs.
