Auto trans. temp gauge

I've asked this question before but got no answer and thought it might
be caused by a confusing subject line.  Here's goes again.

I would like to detect the temperature of my auto tranny fluid in my '89
200.  Has anyone modified the current circuity for displaying engine oil
temperature so that it displays tranny oil temp?  This could be done by
installing an engine oil temp sensor in the transmission oil line going
to the cooler, I think.
