This post is to report on the performance of the new, beefy 19mm rear sway
bar installed in my eS2 (ex '91 CQ) for the Quattro Club event at Brainerd
Intl Raceway 4/30 - 5/1. In a word, performance was SUPERB! At the St.
Cloud track on April 14, a number of QC members, including Paul Hantleman
who owns a '91 CQ with excellent suspension mods including the beefy bar
used as the model for my new one, noticed plenty of rear lean in hard
cornering.
At the BIR event, a number of the same people noticed my car was noticeably
flatter in hard cornering. Most notably, Paul followed me through BIR's
plus 90 degree hard right Turn 3 into the set of four turns which make up
the fast backside esses at BIR. He reported that the eS2 was consistently
cornering flat while pulling away from him (the turbo helps!). For me, the
car never felt tighter or faster. At no point did I or anyone else notice a
wheel leaving the track surface. Soooo, I'm a happy camper with the new
sway bar!
Anderson Motorsport currently has for sale 9 full length 19mm bars and
8-19mm sway bars which are two inches shorter to provide as much torsional
rigidity as a 22-25mm bar. They are adding clips and mounting kit parts at
present. Keith Anderson anticipates selling the sway bar kits for well
under $200 plus shipping. The sway bars will fit late 1990 CQ's and 90 20v
sedans (those with airbags) as well as all 1991 CQ's and 90 20v sedans. I
understand Anderson will offer them through their website with before and
after pics from my car soon.
Usual disclaimer: no financial interest (just a satisfied customer)
