Definitely the vacuum supply and not the controller. You have a vacuum leak.
Coasting, of course, creates a more robust vacuum, used by the programmer to
control actuators that open and close air flaps in the AC system.

We've discovered an interesting feature of this A/C operation..... works
only thru the defroster vents unless you go into the coasting downhill mode,
at which time it blows normally thru the proper vents.  Vac supply?
Controller? I havent had to do much HVAC on any of the Audis I service and
haven't paid much attention to the subject in the past.  Suggestions
appreciated.  Thanks, John
