Virus, a little long......

Hi Listers,
Just a few comments, I don't understand how these viruses are being
passed around, I'm on a Mac G4 running OS9, and have Virex installed,
so who knows, but it seems to me that if we only exchange plain-text
email on the list this wouldn't happen to those of you who are getting
'infected'. The only fancy footwrk web-wise we ever seem to need here
is the occasional passing on of a link to web pages. Plain text and
sometimes html email handles that fine....
I'm also using Netscape and for what it's worth I have my prferences
set up to 'ask' me before sending email ; what format to send it in,
before actually sending I have to click a choise in the pop-up dialogue
box. That's not too much trouble ( especially compared to getting
infected and having to do all that restoration)
I also have just a bit of a rant, and that is concerning the MIME
format !
WHAT IS mime formatting and what advantages does it offer those that
use it?
I don't know how the rest of us feel but, I get about nine or ten
digests a day from the list and alot of the time there are "mime"
formatted messages on it that are essentially a short paragraph of
'content' cloaked in about a page of computer babble to scroll
through......I hate it, but assume it must be some great stuff for the
users who send it; or they would stop, because they must like me have
to scroll thru all that crap too....
Is this so , or is there some great aspect to this 'mime' stuff that
I'm really missing out on?
Michael
