ben,
thanks for the tips w. the isv. i didnt really test/fiddle with it. i need 
to take a closer look. cleaning it changed the symptoms but didnt really 
make it better.
thanx too for the adjustment screw suggestion. im always happy to swing by 
the local audi shop and "order parts" (sit in an s4 and make engine noises 
:)
i hope the new ones have a better drive to fix ratio...
