Wheel Studs available from H&R

Rob:

Your are going to have to measure your specific application. I have only seen the 60mm studs so far, and, in addition to 60mm of thread for the wheel attachment, they have ~7-10mm of unthreaded section and then a further ~10-15mm of thread that screws into the hub. Thus the 60mm stud is actually ~85mm long. The unthreaded section then has the effect of allowing you to tighten the studs into the hub and have a point which will not allow them to screw in any further. I have used the term "shoulder" previously which is not strictly true becuase the unthreaded portion is the same diameter as the O/D. of the threads, ie the nominal diameter of the stud which is 14mm.

The effect of the unthreaded area is to lengthen the portion which protrudes from the hub by about 7mm.

AWE Tuning confirmed that the 40mm studs also had this feature, but I haven't received them yet so can't tell you how much they add, but I suspect it will also be about 7mm.

I do not know the dimensions of the BIRA spacer. My SQ rotors are about 12mm thicker than standard, and 40mm studs are more than adequate on the stock 8x15 Ronals.

Would 40 mm be enough to fit an A6 16" wheel with the spacer for BIRA stage 1? Not quite there yet, but I will be going that direction and would love studs vs bolts.

    Hey Guys:

Picked up the new European Car last week and found an article on page 130 that references H&R's new QUICK-SAFE wheel stud conversions. NO MORE fiddling with getting the rotor and hub aligned with the wheel holes!!

The are TUV approved, screw right into your existing hub, and have a shoulder for positive location. I got some in over the weekend and they appear to be very well made. They are available in 40, 50 and 60mm lengths. This measurement represents the threaded area to the outside of the shoulder. The 40mm length should be fine for most of our applications.

I gather that they can also supply matching nuts, although the Porsche steel nuts work fine.

If you are interested, call Steve at 888-827-8881.

I'm trying to show him that there is some worthwhile support for this type of product.

I have no interest other than motivating Steve to get the 40mm studs in sooner from Germany. They are $2.50 each.

    TIA
