Rear shocks "offset" on type 44Q?

I replaced the shocks on my '90 200TQ today, and found something
strange. The rear shocks are slightly slanted forward, more forward at
the wheel bearing housing than the upper mount, which causes the whole
thing to be slightly offset. Is this normal? It looks to me as the
upper mount gets a lot of additional stress due to this.. 

My old '87 5k (non-q) had the dampers straight up from the axle to the
upper mount..
