No more oil consumption

I guess I'll be a new test subject. I have a '90 CQ20v with 108kmi that has
used oil excessively for the last 20,000 miles. I can't understand why, as
it has been lovingly cared for, and never abused (my wife drives it...she's
dinky enough and I'm not). Oil change is usually every 3000, and never more
than 4000 miles. Previous original owner was fanatical about it, always
using Mann filters, and had the Audi dealer change it between "Audi
Assurance" plan schedules (reciepts and all). It has been using a qt. about
every 500mi. and smokes visibly. I bought it w/65,000mi. O2 sensor and
timing belt were done at 60k (along with all other fluids flushed).

I just changed out the 02 sensor, plugs, cap and rotor, air filter last week
due to poor running and bad mpg. Wires checked ok. It runs much better. I
cannot see how an 02 sensor could possibly effect oil consumption, but if it
miraculously does, I'll be sure to let you all know!
