Well, after about 2 weeks of tuning the EFI system it is running very good. I have been commuting for two weeks in it (about 50mi round trip) and tweaking #'s on my laptop along the way. If you are on I280 and see a maroon 80tq swerving between lanes of traffic...I have not been drinking! I was likely programming the closed loop operation of the O2 sensor ;)
I have found something very fascinating already. Running 270cc injectors (rated at 3 bar) at 4.5 bar (which is more like 330cc) I am hitting max pulsewidth at a measly 7 psi. Assuming that 270cc injectors are good to about 275 hp (which they are theoretically), that means that running basically the same boost as a stock MC, I am making over 100hp more than the MC being run off of CIS and using restricitve IC, CIS, and intake/exh. system!
And the power of the car supports the 270hp #, the car is brutally fast, especially on the freeway. In 5th gear 80-100 takes about 5 sec, and 100 to 120 is equally fast, 4th gear acceleration is even faster, and 3rd gear, well =). Honestly, I have never spent much time in a smaller quattro with 275hp, but 4th gear acceleration is almost dehabilitating, taking all my concentration to hold onto the wheel as the speed pours on and my vision blurs, it is very exhilarating, but also dangerous on public roads as no one expects a car to be going by them at twice their speed!
As my goal with this project was 300-350 hp, which I am VERY confident at accomplishing, I will be upgrading the injectors to 45lb units that should be good to 400hp. Using the K26 I will go to 15 psi or so, and I am seriously considering an all out K27 as the Sport Quattro had, but a K26/27 hybrid may be more practical on the street. Currently the K26 runs out of steam (yes, with only 7psi) at about 6kRPM, it seems this motor can really breathe.
I will be at Thunderhill racetrack this weekend doing some more testing.
