I guess that you mean 0.085-0.090" thick steel, about 2 to three times the
thickness of a body panel? Any welder can weld that.

But if it is close to an inch thick, a stick welder is the only thing that
you can use. You would also have to make a proper V weld.

I bought a very inexpensive flux core welder a while back when I needed to
make repair my fuel tank. I didn't think that it would work but it did. When
using it for other things I have however noticed that the strengh of the
welds are only around 30% of a weld made with a good MIG welder. Stick welds
are even stronger, mostly because of a wider choice of sticks.
