welders

I just built a 12 foot utility trailer out of 11 gauge box tubing with my
110v welder.
Had the heat setting at 3 out of 5 and wire speed half way from max.
I'm sure it would work fine with up to 1/4 inch steel. And I don't think
anybody on this list is going to build with anything thicker than that.
Fabbing things like motor mounts out of 1/8 inch is entirely adequate.
With 75/25 argon/co2 mix it makes very pretty welds.

I would say anybody who advises against a 110 welder for home use doesn't
have any experience with them.

Personally I run a Lincoln Electric with the MIG conversion kit. A
Coca-Cola CO2 bottle provides the shield gas. The entire setup cost about
$400.
If you buy a bottle and nice roll around cart you'll be into for about 6-700
dollars.

It's one of those tools that you wonder how you got by without.
