after 5 scirocco's, 3 GTi's, 1 Corrado and an Audi, I only remember
replacing about 3 CV boots.

car ages:
'77 Scirocco bought around '93
'79 Scirocco bought around '90 (I think i did a cv boot)
'80 Scirocco S bought around '95
'81 Scirocco S bought around '93
'83 GTi bought around '95 (I think i did a cv boot)
'84 GTi bought around '95
'86 16V Scirocco bought around '96
'89 90 Quattro bought around '01
'90 G60 bought around '98 (replaced CV because cracked boot)
'96 GTi bought around '98

(add some lee-way for faulty memory)

had a '79 ford pinto, I think I had 4-5 CV boots crack/rip/shred

oh, and I can't forget the '69 SAAB 95 that was my moms car when I was a
wee tyke. I drove that after high school till I damaged the engine due to
lack of oil after oil filter failure on the hiway (my bad) I belive every
boot was original and I never saw a crack till the car was disposed of in
about '94

I don't think it's 'euro' cars that are a problem.
do you spray tyre, brake cleaner on your car? is there some other chemical
getting on the CV boots making them brittle? road de-ice? gremlins? evil
spirits?

maybe just have the boots exorsized?
