Axle Bolt Specs - '88 90q

M14=14mm bolt (thickness of the bolt), while M16=16 mm bolt.  The 14's a 
bit bigger than a 1/2 inch bolt, the 16's close to a 5/8 bolt.  You're 
correct that the bolt's strength rating is the number stamped on its head.
