Why Audi stopped rallying

In the Unfair Advantage video which Audi sent me years ago, it sounds to me 
like they left rallying to dominate other forms of racing such as 
hillclimbing, Trans Am & IMSA.  This seems to be a pretty standard approach.  
When I was a kid, Ford finally won LeMans and the quit.  Porsche did the same 
several years ago.  I suspect Audi will do the same in a year or so.
