re. resistor/zener mod

[I know this has been gone over before on the list, but in searching the 
archives i cannot find the details of doing this. I am more interested in 
the mod that includes just the resistor rather then both the resistor and 
zener, i don't know that i actually want to do this mod, but i would like to
