I don't think it was a coolant level issue - more likely the temp sensor
that the ecu depends on to determine how warm/cold the engine is.  If it
thinks it is really cold its gonna dump a lot of fuel into the
cylinders.

Your Bentley should have a location and testing specs (resistances at
certain temps) for the sender.

Also if you have them fixed resistors can be swapped in to simulate the
appropriate temp conditions, if you feel like playing.
