Tom,
It will come out all right, but be prepared for some fun! At the minimum, remove the RF axle and the CV heat shield. Make sure you have something sturdy to stand on while you pull straight up, then spin the head towards the back of the car, and also turn it counter-clockwise (or something close to that). I might of had the tie-rod out at that point, but I don't fully recall. If you can find someone, have them snap pictures as you do it... it was amusing even from first-person.
Good Luck!
J.P.

Subject: removal of 87 4kq head with EM and downpipe attatched
Hello All,
Has anyone tried to remove the head from a 87 4kq with the EM and downpipe
attached? Will it come out of the car?
I am trying to replace the warped head on my 4kq, but I am being fought by
corrosion, and I do not have a torch to combat it. I have two rusted and
rounded nuts on the bottom of the EM that I have fought for hours, and all
that is left of the nut heads on the down pipe is big blobs of rust.
I figure if I can pull the head with EM and downpipe attached, I can get at
the EM nuts and downpipe studs a lot easier to r&r them. Please tell me I am
correct, and that the head will come out :-)
As always, TIA,
Tom B
