V8 remove oil drain plug?

In the archives I found mention of needing a 17mm hex bit for the oil drain 
plug. Is this right? If so, where might I find such a tool? Sears?

Second, my rear oil seal has been leaking and was wondering if I should go to 
a heavier oil untill I get the seal replaced next month? The car smokes a bit 
after commuting in the higher rpms :). I'm currently running 10w30 
non-synthetic.
