Oil consumption, 30V 2.8V6

Is it normal for this engine (the 30-valve non-turbo) to
consume oil during operation?

I know the old 20-valve I5's did.

Or if not, I assume I should be worried that almost two quarts
has disappeared in the last 6000 miles.....
