This sounds like wires. In a previous life I would have said injectors,
but after BTDT several X over, I've learned. Wires can drive you nuts, with
the symptoms like plug firing ok making you look elswhere, like the time I
replaced the injectors on a 100Q NG (and similarly the carburator on a chevy
350) with these symptoms and seeing no improvement. It was obvious that the
supposedly brand new looking wires (and I was informed they'd been replaced
recently by reputable mechanic) were shot - which became evident as I
removed them - they fell apart!

Replace the entire set with OEM Bosch 7mm or 8mm wires..available at
thepartsconnection.com among others for reasonable prices.

Oh, another good way to find bad wires in a hurry is to pressure wash the
engine..nokidding. If it runs like crap when you clean your engine and air
blow it dry, replace the wires and be thankful you didn't wait for the
symptoms to show up during a storm.

Following(or preceeding the wires) I assume you already checked/replaced
your cap and rotor. If you didn't do that first, or if you want to make it
easir work wise do it all )plugs, wires, cap and rotor at the smae time.

Many stories of AUDI's, VW's & Chevys(Marine) too that have taught me to
rule out the ignition before trouble-shooting the fuel delivery system. New
wires on all my old AUDIs.
