97 A4 keyless remote battery type??

The '96 uses a different kind of remote than the '97, thus different
kind of battery.  The family album only lists the Audi part numbers
for these and there are a couple of different styles of remotes
with different part numbers.  No generic number is listed...

You should have two remotes that comes with the car, right?
Open the other one and have a look-see.  Otherwise, the best bet
is to find someone else with the same style remote who could check
for you, or go to the dealer... :(
