Driveline Vibration Solved

Well since it was 70 degrees here today and I have to afternoon off I
decided to get those engine mounts changed. Getting the top nuts off of the
driver's mount was easy, not so for the passenger's, that is one crammed
area of the engine bay. I ended up undoing the lower heat shield/hot air
feed and sliding it totally forwards. Bent the heatshield a little for
easier access. Then took my 17mm wrench and levered it with a my breaker
bar handle to get the bolt cracked free. Then it took a half an hour of 1/4
turns to get the top nut off fully. Jacked the engine up side by side and
popped the mounts down and replaced one at a time.

The old mounts looked new from the bottom, but when I got the
passenger's out I found it was busted (top bit was off) and really fagged,
half the height of the new mount. The driver's mount wasn't as bad, it
doesn't have to deal with all that weight and torquing forces I guess.
Though it was still shorter than the new one by quite a bit.

Popped everything back together and went for a drive. I originally had
vibrations at 6k rpm plus and one while decelerating through 2.5k rpm. It
was a faint vibration that made the radar detectors rattle enough to hear
and could be felt all around the cabin. With the new mounts in I don't feel
anything really. There is a little vibration down through 2.5 k rpm, but
nothing like before. I have trans mounts and those will go in when I decide
to futz with that downpipe, yuck.

I know that someone around here had the same problem, Mr. Graber what
that you? Hope this helps!

Cheers!
